Severe crash on A3 highway close to Duisburg - Pedestrians accidentally enter construction zone for vehicles - Emergency response team for traffic accidents activated
On Monday, February 17, 2025, at 19:06, a tragic accident occurred on the A3 highway near Bottrop, Germany. The incident involved a 38-year-old pedestrian and a Renault vehicle, heading towards Arnhem.
According to preliminary investigations, the pedestrian stepped onto the road from the left side, directly into the path of the oncoming vehicle. As a result, the pedestrian was hit head-on by the driver's vehicle.
At the scene, indications suggested that the pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol. The driver, a 54-year-old resident of Bottrop, was not suspected of any wrongdoing.
The A3 highway was fully closed in both directions for the accident investigation. Traffic was rerouted single-lane past the accident scene, causing significant delays. The opposite lane was temporarily closed as well.
The specialists of the traffic accident response team secured the evidence at the scene. The pedestrian remained severely injured on the left lane near the median barrier. The injured pedestrian was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
