Severe Collision on A59 Motorway Near Duisburg - One Critical, Three Moderate Injuries - Road Blocked Completely
On Thursday, 28th August 2025, a significant traffic accident occurred on the A59 near Duisburg. The incident involved three vehicles and took place at approximately 14:25.
The accident started when a 53-year-old man from Duisburg, driving an Audi A6 towards Dinslaken, lost control of his vehicle due to a suspected medical emergency. In the ensuing chaos, he drove uncontrolled into a VW Transporter, driven by a 69-year-old man from Duisburg.
The driver of the VW Transporter, along with its two female passengers aged 68 and 71, were lightly injured. However, the driver who lost control was injured seriously and was taken to the hospital, though the location of the hospital where the injured driver was taken is not specified.
The 53-year-old man from Duisburg was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The three occupants of the VW were fortunate to escape with minor injuries. The 59-year-old man from Dortmund, who was driving a Citroën Jumpy and was lightly touched by the Audi, remained unharmed.
All vehicles involved in the accident were so badly damaged that they had to be towed away. The main carriageway towards Dinslaken was fully closed, but traffic was able to be diverted via the parallel carriageway.
Initial investigations suggest that the accident was due to a medical emergency. The police conducted investigations without mentioning individual officer responsibility. As of now, no specific police officer has been identified in connection with the accident.
