Terry Reid, a British singer-songwriter often referred to as "Superlungs" for his powerful voice, has passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer.

Reid gained recognition in the late 1960s, becoming a sought-after talent in the music industry. He was recommended by Terry Reid for the role of singer in the iconic band Led Zeppelin, but Reid declined the offer due to his existing touring commitments with the Rolling Stones and Cream at the time.

Reid, who knew Robert Plant and John Bonham from their earlier group Band of Joy, suggested that Jimmy Page consider them as potential members for his new band. Page was initially Reid's first choice to be the singer of Led Zeppelin, but Reid declined the offer, citing his touring obligations.

In a similar turn of events, Reid was also offered a spot in Deep Purple after their original singer left. However, he turned down the offer, stating that the band's music was "too metal" and not aligned with his style.

Throughout his career, Reid worked on sessions with notable artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Don Henley, and Jackson Browne. He also collaborated with Dr. Dre on his album "Seed of Memory." His songs have been covered by various artists, including Marianne Faithfull, Cheap Trick, Chris Cornell, and Jack White's Raconteurs.

Reid's debut album, "Bang Bang, You're Terry Reid," released in 1968, included the oft-covered song "Without Expression." His 1973 album, "River," also found success.

In his later years, Reid relocated to California and continued to perform, collaborating with the Replacements in 1990 during sessions for their final album, "All Shook Down." He was set to launch his biggest U.K. tour in decades next month.

Reid is survived by his wife, Annette. His contributions to the music industry will not be forgotten, and his powerful voice will continue to echo in the hearts of fans and musicians alike.
