Seventh Day of Wimbledon Tennis Championships
Under overcast skies and with temperatures hovering around 21 degrees Celsius, the fourth round of the Wimbledon 2025 tennis championships commenced on Sunday, July 6. The day's matches determined the quarter-finalists, who will face off on Monday, July 7.
In the women's singles tournament, notable victories include American Madison Keys' win over Germany's Andrea Petkovic (6-4 6-7(3) 6-3), the Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova's triumph over Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck (6-4 6-3), and Spaniard Paula Badosa's defeat of Switzerland's Jil Teichmann (6-2 6-4).
In the men's singles, Russian 17th seed Karen Khachanov cruised past Poland's Kamil Majchrzak (6-4 6-2 6-3), Croatia's Marin Cilic beat Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff (6-4 6-2 6-7(7) 7-6(5)), and Russian Aslan Karatsev overcame France's Adrian Mannarino (7-6(5) 6-4 6-3).
Notable matchups in the men's singles quarter-finals include Novak Djokovic vs. Alex de Minaur, Jannik Sinner vs. Grigor Dimitrov, and Mirra Andreeva vs. Emma Navarro, all scheduled for Monday, July 7. The women's singles quarter-finals will also take place on Monday, with matches featuring Keys, Pliskova, Badosa, and the winner of the match between Andreeva and Navarro.
The round of 16 matches concluded on Sunday, with some matches extending into the early hours due to rain delays. Notable among these was Britain's Cameron Norrie's gruelling five-set victory against Chile's Nicolas Jarry, lasting over four hours. American fifth seed Taylor Fritz also progressed to the quarter-finals after Jordan Thompson retired due to injury with Fritz leading 6-1 3-0.
Unfortunately, play has been suspended on the outside courts due to rain. Matches on Centre Court and Court One are continuing with the roofs closed. Top seed Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Belgium's Elise Mertens 6-3 7-6(4) in just over 90 minutes.
Teenager Tatjana Maria also advanced to the last 16 after beating Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2 6-4. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the second time in her career, defeating Sonay Kartal 7-6(3) 6-4.
However, Solana Sierra's dream run at Wimbledon ended as she was beaten by Germany's Laura Siegemund, who reached the quarter-finals for the first time. American John Isner also reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals after beating Canada's Vasek Pospisil 7-6(5) 6-3 6-4.
