Rising Star Thomas Rew Shines in One-Day Cup and Youth Test Matches

Thomas Rew, a 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, continues to make waves in the cricket world. Representing Somerset in the One-Day Cup, Rew has shown significant early achievements, including a match-winning 150 in a vital win over Middlesex and a record-breaking century for England Under-19s against India in 2025.

In a recent One-Day Cup match against Durham, Rew scored his second consecutive fifty, contributing to a 107-run partnership with his brother James. Despite Durham setting a target of 256 runs, Somerset managed to secure a four-wicket victory, with Rew finishing unbeaten on 84 off 81 balls.

In the Youth Test series against India, Rew captained the England Under-19s in the second game, where he scored a crucial 84 to help his team secure a one-wicket victory. This performance earned him the title of the second-highest run-scorer in the series, with 280 runs at an impressive average of 93.33 and a strike rate of 142.13.

The Rew brothers, James and Thomas, also built a 95-run partnership in the series, but Somerset found themselves in trouble at 189-6 during their chase. However, Rew's resilient innings, which included eight fours and two sixes, helped them overcome the deficit and secure a crucial victory.

In addition to his batting prowess, Rew made his List A debut a month earlier while playing for the First-Class Counties Select XI against Pakistan Shaheens at Hove. He also made his maiden U19 century for England in the same series, contributing to a thrilling one-wicket victory.

The future looks bright for Thomas Rew, who is already being hailed as Somerset's brightest prospect and a rising star expected to feature regularly. As of August 2025, comprehensive career statistics such as matches played, batting averages, and other traditional metrics remain limited due to his young age and emerging career status.
