Seven Hellgate wrestlers will contend in the 2024 All-Class State Championship tournament.

The Hellgate Knights wrestling team is gearing up for the 2023-2024 Montana High School Association (MHSA) winter State wrestling competitions, showcasing a strong performance throughout the season. Historically, the team has consistently qualified several wrestlers for state tournaments, demonstrating solid team depth and individual talent.

Season Highlights

Several Knights have made significant strides this season, securing their spots in the MHSA State Wrestling tournament. Among them is Olive Hoffman, a 145-pound freshman for the Lady Knights, who finished her opening year with a 10-8 record and placed second in Helena. Kenna Schmaus, a senior for the Lady Knights, also made a mark, taking second for her weight class at divisionals and finishing her senior year with seven varsity wins.

On the boys' side, Dillon Gunlock, wrestling at 160 pounds, amassed 24 varsity wins and had only 6 AA losses throughout the season. Gunlock, who is the 6th ranked 160-pound wrestler in the State, placed 2nd at the Western Divisional Tournament in Helena, finishing with a 3-1 record.

Other notable performances include Porter Ferree, wrestling at 205, who placed in the west and secured a spot in Billings, and Max Martin, who placed 8th at the Western AA Divisional tournament to qualify for the same 113-pound bracket. Edison Rosbarsky, Hellgate's most resilient and rugged wrestler, finished his culminating season with an overall 13-17 record, featuring eleven AA wins and six wins by Fall. Oliver Caton (113) and Edison Rosbarsky (120) are also set to represent the boys.

State Tournament Participation

A total of seven Hellgate Knights will compete, including five boys and two girls. Olive Hoffman (145) and Kenna Schmaus (235) will represent the girls. The MHSA All-Class State Wrestling tournament will be the first of the 2023-2024 Montana High School Association winter State competitions.

The opening ceremonies for the tournament will commence at 9 A.M. on Feb. 9th, with wrestling set to begin at approximately 9:20 A.M. at the First Interstate Metra-Park in Billings. The team's focus is on scoring points collectively while also aiming for individual state titles.
