Setúbal Fire Leaves Dozens Displaced After Garage Blaze Spreads
A fire in Setúbal caused significant damage to a residential building in March 2026. While no homes were fully destroyed, the blaze left one structure uninhabitable and displaced dozens of residents.
The fire broke out in a garage, where it completely destroyed one parked car and damaged three others. Flames then spread, severely affecting the building's electrical systems. As a result, the structure was deemed unsafe and left without power.
A Judicial Police (PJ) source later confirmed that a forensic team examined the scene to determine the fire's origin. Meanwhile, 30 residents were forced to leave their homes. Of these, 20 found temporary shelter with relatives, while the remaining 10 were rehoused by local municipal services.
The incident primarily affected forested and rural areas, with no reports of major damage to residential properties beyond the impacted building.
The investigation into the fire's cause continues, with authorities focusing on the garage as the likely starting point. Displaced residents have since been accommodated, either with family or through municipal support. The building remains uninhabitable due to extensive electrical damage.
