Fists Instead of Pucks: SES Boxing Returns with a "Double Rematch" at Halle (Saale) Ice Dome

SES Boxing's 'Double Rematch' ignites Halle's historic Sparkassen Ice Dome on May 9

On May 9, 2026, the Sparkassen Ice Dome in Halle (Saale) will transform into a cauldron of boxing excitement. After a seven-year absence, SES Boxing is making a triumphant return with a blockbuster event under the banner "Double Rematch," promising an extraordinary night of fights.

Where ice hockey stars usually chase goals, the ring will take center stage in May. Promoter Ulf Steinforth is effusive about the choice of venue: "This is a fantastic location—currently the most beautiful arena in Saxony-Anhalt," he enthuses. He emphasizes that the region can take pride in this sports facility. For SES, the return to Halle is a labor of love, a chance to relive the "glorious days" of boxing in the city—such as in the old ice sports hall, where the legendary Chemiepokal once took place.

The Main Events: Unfinished Business

The heart of the gala features two high-stakes rematch bouts, each carrying extra tension due to their controversial histories.

WBO European Light Heavyweight Championship:

Artur Reis (GER) vs. Mateusz Tryc (POL)

In their first clash last November in Chemnitz, SES fighter Artur Reis barely edged out a split-decision victory (2-1 on the judges' scorecards)—a result that sparked fierce debate. Now, Halle will host the definitive showdown. Reis is ready for battle: "This time, we'll settle it clearly. My opponent trains hard, but I'm not just lounging on the couch either." Both fighters enter the ring with nearly identical records (Reis: 16-1-0; Tryc: 16-3-0), ensuring a closely matched contest.

WBO Youth World Super Welterweight Championship:

Julian Vogel (Aschersleben, GER) vs. Sami Ahmeti (Plattling, GER)

This bout pits two of Germany's brightest prospects against each other. Their first meeting in September ended in a draw. Julian Vogel (18-0-2), defending his title for the fourth time, expects "another thrilling, high-quality fight." Challenger Sami Ahmeti, meanwhile, "can't wait to step back into the ring" and turn the narrow outcome of their first encounter in his favor.

"German Boxing Is Alive"

Beyond the headline fights, SES remains committed to nurturing young talent. "German boxing is thriving—and it's thriving because of these young fighters," Steinforth declares proudly. A prime example is heavyweight Michel Dobler from "Team Germany," who, fresh off a TKO victory in the Czech Republic, is on a roll and aiming for his sixth professional win in Halle.

The event is also backed by local promoter Commander Box-Promotion. Its figurehead, Arminius Rolle, radiates excitement: "I've rediscovered my passion for boxing. This gala is going to be incredible, with top-tier matchups."

Local Flavor and Live Broadcast

To strengthen ties with Halle, the undercard will showcase local athletes, giving them a chance to shine in front of a hometown crowd. In addition to the pro bouts, at least six amateur fights are planned.

For those unable to secure tickets, there's good news: MDR will broadcast the SES Boxing gala live on "SPORT im Osten – Boxen live" starting at 10:30 PM.
