Andre Braugher, beloved from the popular Netflix show "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," has left us at the age of 61. Variety confirmed his demise through his spokesperson, Jennifer Allen.
Emmy Wins and Nominations
Born in Chicago, Braugher got his big break in the 1989 film "Glory" alongside Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington. The movie, which centered on an all-black army regiment during the Civil War, paved the way for Braugher's Oscar win.
Despite facing difficulties in finding roles for African-American actors in Hollywood, Braugher shined in the role of Detective Frank Pembleton in Homicide, a gritty police drama series lasting seven seasons. This performances earned him his first Emmy in 1998.
Later on, Braugher was awarded another Emmy for his role in the limited series "Thief" in 2006, having been nominated for eleven Emmys throughout his career.

Braugher's acting skills made him a star in Germany, playing Captain Ray Holt alongside Andy Samberg in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," a comedy series that ran for eight seasons on Netflix.
Transitioning from his previous dramatic roles, Braugher embraced the change to "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and credited the opportunity for opening his mind and broadening his acting abilities.
During the show's run, he was nominated for four Emmys.
