Serbian President Vucic Off to Russia for the Moscow Military Parade
Things are heating up in Serbia's political arena, and it all started with President Vucic's recent trip to Moscow for the big parade on May 9, 2025. The event, which saw about 20 global leaders strut their stuff, including China's Xi Jinping, was a bold move on Vucic's part, considering the EU's worries over such engagement with Russia.
Hold on to your hats, folks, because this deep dive into Serbia's diplomatic dance got even more intricate. Before Vucic left for Moscow, the EU slapped a warning on Serbia, citing the danger of European integration from Vucic's cozying up to the Kremlin.[1][5] Not to worry, Vucic had a convenient excuse up his sleeve - a quick sick spell that postponed his visit to the United States.
The EU wasn't done, though. The Baltic nations(BCs) took things a step further by banning Vucic's private jet from flying through their airspace. Talk about the cold shoulder![2]
Curious about what's next? Keep your eyes on the ball as Vucic continues his dance with the East and West. In true Serbian fashion, they're nimbly managing their delicate ties with both the EU and Russia, even as the EU raises eyebrows over Vucic's participation in the Moscow parade, viewing it as a breach of EU membership expectations and a significant alignment with Russia.[3]
But, fret not! Vucic's got his game face on, and he's staying strong in his commitment to attend the parade. The show must go on![4][5]
Wanna stay in the loop with the latest political kerfuffle? Stay tuned, and we'll keep you updated on this tightrope walk between EU aspirations and ties with Russia!
