Serbian Duo Convicted for €10,000 Vienna Bike Theft Spree

Two Serbian men have been convicted of stealing bicycles in Vienna between December 2025 and January 2026. The pair, aged 26 and 19, admitted to cutting locks and taking bikes worth over €10,000 in total. Their sentencing comes as bike thefts in the city remain high, with 7,009 reported in 2024 alone.

The older defendant, 26, sold the stolen bicycles on platforms like Willhaben and Facebook Marketplace for €150 to €200 each. He also confessed to attaching stolen licence plates to his car and removing bike clamps. His share of the thefts amounted to at least €5,700.

The younger man, 19, claimed he passed the stolen bikes to another person who transported them to Serbia. His involvement accounted for at least €5,000 in stolen property. Both admitted to using bolt cutters to break into storage rooms. In court, the 26-year-old received a 22-month sentence, with four months unconditional. The younger defendant was given an 18-month suspended term. The ruling remains subject to appeal.

The case highlights ongoing bike theft issues in Vienna, where over 7,000 bicycles were stolen last year. The defendants' confessions included details of resale methods and tampering with security measures. Their sentencing reflects the severity of the offences, though the verdict may still be challenged.
