sequel to The Social Network captures my focus, and here are my thoughts on it

After the success of the 2010 film "The Social Network," directed by David Fincher, the world is eagerly awaiting the long-awaited sequel, "The Social Network Part II." The project, which is still in the works, will reportedly take a different approach to Facebook, focusing on its inner workings and the harms caused on a global scale.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the upcoming sequel is the involvement of Aaron Sorkin. Known as one of the greatest screenwriters, playwrights, and TV creators of the past 25-30 years, Sorkin will not only be writing the script but also directing the film.

Jeremy Strong, who has proven his acting abilities in intense and powerful roles such as Kendall Roy on HBO's Succession and Roy Cohn in The Apprentice, has been rumored to take over the role of Mark Zuckerberg from Jesse Eisenberg. In July 2025, Deadline reported that Strong was being considered for the role. Mikey Madison, who is coming off a career-defining role in Anora, was also reported to be considered for a role in the sequel. However, the characters' identities have not been confirmed.

While Sorkin's direction may not match the nuance and punchiness of Fincher's original effort, Sorkin's signature "walk and talks" scenes, where people have intense conversations while walking through various locations, could potentially be present in "The Social Network Part II."

Despite some concerns and apprehensions about the project, "The Social Network Part II" has generated excitement. The sequel will explore the story behind Jeff Horowitz's articles titled "The Facebook Files," which were first published by the Wall Street Journal in October 2021.

The sequel will reportedly delve into the story behind the articles, which exposed Facebook's internal documents that revealed the company's knowledge of the harm its platform has caused globally. With Sorkin at the helm, audiences can expect a thought-provoking and engaging exploration of the tech giant's inner workings.

In addition to "The Social Network Part II," Jeremy Strong and Jeremy Allen White may also be seen in Scott Cooper's music biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. The number of "walk and talks" scenes in "The Social Network Part II" is uncertain, but it could potentially be four or more.

As the production of "The Social Network Part II" continues, audiences eagerly await the final cast and the release date for this highly anticipated sequel. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project.
