Sequel scripting for Man of Tomorrow proven "much easier" compared to Superman, according to James Gunn, who expresses enjoyment, labeling the process "so fun"
In an exciting development for DC fans, James Gunn has announced that a sequel to the iconic Superman film is in the works. Titled 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow,' the movie is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
The upcoming film, which is also a part of the list of all the upcoming DC movies and shows in the works, will not exclusively feature Braniac as the main villain. Instead, the story is as much a Lex Luthor movie as it is a Superman movie.
James Gunn has referred to the film as having an immediate direction, and filming is expected to begin relatively soon, with a 2027 release date. The main characters confirmed to appear in the film are Clark Kent / Superman, played by David Corenswet, and Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult. Lex Luthor will be featured notably in his iconic Warsuit.
The film will explore a complex dynamic where Superman and Lex must cooperate against a greater threat. According to Gunn, 'Man of Tomorrow' is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman working together.
Interestingly, Gunn finds writing the script for 'Man of Tomorrow' much easier and more enjoyable than the first film. He has also expressed that he relates to the character of Lex Luthor.
The comic book arc of 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow' features villains different from those speculated by fans to appear in the movie. The villains Kal-El (Superman) takes on in the comic book arc are Neron and Silver Banshee.
It's worth noting that 'Supergirl,' a feature-length film in Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU, will hit theaters before 'Man of Tomorrow' in 2026. This means fans can look forward to two exciting DC films back-to-back.
With an intriguing plot, a star-studded cast, and a release date just around the corner, 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow' is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the DC universe. Stay tuned for more updates!
