Seoul Arts Award Winners Take Traditional Korean Music Global
Two Seoul Arts Award winners, geomungo virtuoso Heo Yoon-jeong and 99 Art Company, are taking their prize-winning art global. 'Masterful Harmony' and 'Je: Burnt Offering' will tour Europe, blending traditional Korean instruments with modern sensibilities. The tour marks 25 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and Andorra.
Heo Yoon-jeong, winner of the Seoul Arts Award Grand Prize for 'Masterful Harmony', will kick off her tour in Prague on Oct. 2, followed by Vienna and Budapest. Her art, a blend of traditional Korean instruments and modern sensibilities, will be performed in eight cities across seven countries. The tour includes stops in Italy, France, Belgium, and the Czech Republic, with a total of 12 performances.
99 Art Company's 'Je: Burnt Offering' will also tour Europe, starting in Andorra on Nov. 11 and concluding in Prague on Dec. 2. The art explores the dignity of labor and the sacredness of life through seungmu and je. The tour marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Andorra.
Both artists' international tours demonstrate the potential of their award-winning art and the success of the Seoul Arts Award program. The tour offers a unique opportunity for European audiences to experience the blend of traditional Korean instruments with modern sensibilities, fostering cultural exchange and understanding.
