Senior Eubank criticizes son's rematch with Benn in fiery diatribe, labeling it as "scum buckets"
Rebel Ringmaster: Chris Eubank Sr Speaks Out Against Son's Rematch with Conor Benn
In a surprising switch, outspoken boxing icon Chris Eubank Sr, former two-weight world champ, watched his son, Chris Eubank Jr, secure victory via unanimous decision in a highly anticipated rematch with Conor Benn, 22 years after his legendary bouts with Nigel Benn.
However, Eubank Sr's initial criticism of the clash proves to be well-founded, as his concerns revolve around weight and rehydration stipulations.
Eubank Jr narrowly missed the middleweight limit by merely a half ounce going into the fight, incurring a hefty £375,000 fine [1]. For the bout, he was subjected to a 10lbs rehydration limit in the morning, which he attained, albeit with visible struggle.
Facing a rematch for the end of 2025, Eubank Sr has expressed fervent disagreement, launching a scathing tirade on his YouTube channel.
"These promoters don't have a clue," Eubank Sr asserted angrily.
He argued, "Junior's 160 lbs, but he's coming down from 175. They slapped a rehydration clause on him, fining him $500,000 for coming in a couple ounces over the weight... Junior wasn't even sweating at the end of the fight, dehydration."
Eubank Sr, vocal champion for fighter safety, condemned the media for their negligence, declaring them 'dangerous and reckless.'
"The Boxing Board of Control needs to step up and block fights that don't abide by the weights and rules. You are baboons!" he exclaimed indignantly.
Stressing the importance of physical well-being, Eubank Sr called out the industry's "scum buckets," criticizing them for treating fighters like commodities without a second thought for their health.
"My son is not backing down from anything," he asserted resolutely. "One, money. Two, the heart. I am here to protect and they are uneducated against those... What my son called them? Scum buckets. If that's the term he gave to promoters, he's not wrong."
With the stakes high and danger lurking in the corners of the ring, Eubank Sr's concerns grow louder, echoing a call for more stringent regulations in the world of boxing.
