In the heart of Dresden, a trio stands accused of exploiting the vulnerabilities of the elderly. Over an extended period, they're believed to have stalked senior citizens as they withdrew their hard-earned money. Two women and a man are on trial in Dresden District Court, facing charges of robbery, theft, and computer fraud. Their alleged crimes, totaling over 60,000 euros, have left a trail of 168 incidents, affecting the elderly population of the region.

At the commencement of the trial, one of the main defendants and a 57-year-old woman chose to confess through a plea bargain. In contrast, the second woman denies the accusations. The blueprint for this scheme, according to the defense lawyer for the primary suspect, was conceived by the main defendant and executed alongside others. Violence was strictly forbidden in this operation, ensuring an uncanny level of subtlety.

The verdict was as follows: the main defendant was sentenced to about five years, while the co-defendant received a sentence of around four years. The woman who confessed in court offered an apology for her role in the thefts, empathizing with the impact on the elderly victims, many of whom were women in their 80s and 90s.

A third defendant opted against a plea bargain, maintaining she was not directly involved in the crimes. She admitted, however, to using a razor blade to expedite the thefts, further victimizing the vulnerable elders.

The trial is scheduled to conclude in early 2024, with the court hoping that the confessions may spare the senior citizens from having to testify in person.
