Senator Musa Clarifies Misunderstood 'Harmonize' Incident at the Senate

In a video that has garnered widespread attention online, Senator Sani Musa, representing the Niger East Senatorial District, appeared visibly baffled while attempting to explain the term 'Harmonise' during a session at the National Assembly. The incident took place on May 29, 2025, during a discussion about a bill.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio had requested Senator Musa to clarify his use of the term, leading to an awkward and light-hearted moment as the senator seemed to struggle for words, prompting laughter among attendees.

In response to the public reaction, Senator Musa issued a statement on Friday, denying that he was unable to define the term. He explained that a point of order raised by Senator Abdul Ningi had taken precedence in accordance with parliamentary procedure, preventing him from finishing his response.

"There has been a misleading narrative spreading on social media platforms, alleging that I, Senator Sani Musa, was embarrassed on the floor of the Senate and unable to define the term 'harmonized' when questioned by the Senate President," the statement read.

Senator Musa further highlighted his role in leading the conference committee responsible for harmonizing the Tax Reform Bills and the commendation these landmark legislations received from both chambers of the National Assembly.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of responsible journalism, urging media outlets to verify facts before publishing stories that could mislead the public and potentially damage reputations unwarrantedly.

The viral video has sparked discussions about the competence and preparedness of public officials in legislative settings, as many social media users shared and commented on the clip.
