Traffic Senator Ute Bonde Vows Swift Bridge Repairs and Traffic Flow Improvements

Senator Vows Swift Construction of Bridges - Senator pledges accelerated progress in bridge construction projects.

Hey there! Let's talk about Ute Bonde, Berlin's traffic senator, who's making some big promises about fixing up the city's crumbling bridges and aiding traffic flow.

Ute Bonde, a member of the CDU party, has expressed concern over the stability of Berlin's bridges. "The longevity and robustness of our bridges and engineering structures have become questionable," she said in the House of Representatives. Approximately 120 Berlin bridges are in dire need of repair or replacement over the next decade, Bonde estimates, with a price tag of around one billion euros.

According to Bonde, decades of neglect, prioritizing the wrong projects, and a fast-growing city have left the city's infrastructure struggling to keep up. "We in the Senate understand the problems and are tackling them decisively," she asserted.

This summer, the Senate plans to unveil a "Master Plan Bridges" featuring numerous projects aimed at speeding up bridge construction. They've already streamlined planning and implementation processes to cut down project timelines by two to three years.

Bonde also discussed measures to combat traffic congestion and enhance traffic flow. "What's the point of a recently repaired bridge if there's gridlock before and after it?" she questioned. To address this, she announced a "new dynamic control for all traffic carriers" utilizing real-time data and artificial intelligence (AI). This system will prioritize public transit, like buses and trams, but should also offer improvements for individual traffic.

In addition to improving traffic flow, Bonde wants to streamline construction sites with a "construction site coordination platform." Construction projects often pose problems for traffic flow, so Bonde aims to minimize their impact to the best of her ability.

Bonde revealed that the Senate will soon decide to allow speeds of 50 km/h on many road sections. This change could contribute to better traffic flow, but slower speeds will remain near schools, daycares, and nursing homes to ensure the safety of citizens and accommodate health-related noise concerns.

Keep an eye out forQR codes at construction sites, where you'll find updated information about the construction work. The mobile unit prepared for autumn will also supervise major roads, enforce safety measures, and document violations at these sites.

Some folks complain about slow-moving or stagnant construction sites, and Bonde believes that transparency will help alleviate these concerns.
