Senator Musa Maintained Dignity Amid Senate Discussion - Akpabio Clarifies Misunderstanding over 'Harmonized' Controversy

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims that Senator Sani Musa was embarrassed during a recent Senate session due to an alleged inability to define the term "harmonized." In a statement he personally signed, Akpabio described the reports circulating on social media and blogs, including Linda Ikeji's Blog, as false and misleading.

According to Akpabio, the incident was misrepresented, taken out of context, and did not result in any breach of decorum. He explained that when Senator Musa was called upon, Senator Abdul Ningi had raised a point of order requiring immediate procedural attention in line with Senate rules. The session continued without incident, and Senator Musa responded effectively, contrary to the reports.

Akpabio commended Senator Musa for his significant contributions to the Senate, particularly his role as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Finance and the Conference Committee, which successfully harmonized the Tax Reform Bills. This legislative achievement was acknowledged by both chambers and stakeholders.

The Nigerian Senate operates on principles of respect, order, and integrity. Akpabio urged all media platforms to ensure their commentary is rooted in facts and not sensationalism. He also called on media outlets to adhere to the ethics of responsible journalism in their coverage of National Assembly proceedings.
