Get ready for a clash of colors and ideologies in Berlin's Marzahn district this weekend. Despite a planned counter-protest by far-right groups, Berlin's Social Senator Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) stands firm in her support for the upcoming "Pride Parade."

"If you're under attack, we'll do everything in our power to stand by your side," she asserted, showing solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Kiziltepe expressed her concern over the gathering of neo-Nazis looking to disrupt the event, adding, "This cannot, and will not, be tolerated."

The much-anticipated "6th Marzahn Pride" is scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 PM, starting from Märkische Allee and Allee der Kosmonauten, with roughly 1,000 participants expected to join.

Counter-Demonstration

A demonstration, titled "Against Identity Confusion and Gender Propaganda," has also been registered with the police, with an estimated 300 participants. This title was previously used for a large neo-Nazi demonstration against CSD parades of the homosexual community in Bautzen, Saxony.

The fate of the far-right demonstration in Berlin remains uncertain, with ongoing planning meetings and unclear preparations from the police.

According to a recent report, the neo-Nazi group "Deutsche Jugend voran" (DJV) might be behind the counter-demonstration, who have a history of disrupting Christopher Street Days (CSD) events.

It's a tale as old as time—antifascist and anti-transphobia events Such as those held in Weißensee and Pankow neighborhoods have faced hostility from fascist groups like the Nationalrevolutionäre Jugend (youth wing of "Der dritte Weg," a fascist party) who have shown a tendency for violence against the LGBTQ+ community and political opponents. These groups advocate a fiercely national-socialist ideology that condemns the trans and queer communities.[2]

However, specific details on the Marzahn district counter-protest and the police's response to it are not reported in the current sources.[1][3] It is likely that local authorities keep tabs on such situations and prepare accordingly, but the public remains in the dark when it comes to specifics.

  1. The Community policy should outline the response to situations like the planned counter-demonstration against the "6th Marzahn Pride," ensuring the safety and protection of all citizens, particularly the LGBTQ+ community, from instances of hate speech and violence.
  2. In light of the growing number of war-and-conflicts, general-news outlets must extensively cover social issues such as politics surrounding events like the Marzahn Pride Parade and crime-and-justice cases related to hate crimes against the LGBTQ+ community, promoting awareness and fostering a more inclusive society.
