Senate Ex-member Bob Menendez Continues to Advocate for Trump's Pardon, Despite Impending Prison Term

Trump ain't ruling out a pardon or sentence reduction for ol' Sen. bob Menendez, but his allies reckon it's a long shot before the New Jersey Dem's scheduled jail date comes up next month, as per a White House official and three others in the know.

Since Trump assumed the throne, Menendez's cronies have been pleading for a pardon or clemency after his 11-year prison sentence for bribery and corruption, according to four insiders. After one such plea, some thought Trump wouldn't grant Menendez a break, but a White House staffer says the old man hasn't made a final decision.

Early this year, Menendez flicked a message to Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally, seeking a pardon or sentence commutation, but Graham passed on the request. Menendez also tried appealin' to Jewish bigwigs in the Big Apple and Jersey as a different route to Trump, and he even gave a shout-out to the Kushner crew for assistance—only to be turned down, reportedly.

Menendez already tried to wangle a get-out-of-jail-free card from Prez Joe Biden earlier this year, but came up empty-handed. Before pleading not guilty on federal bribery and corruption charges, Menendez was sentenced to 11 years and stepped down from the Senate in August, with his wife, Nadine, copping a conviction on similar doings in a separate trial.

Attemptin' to flatter Trump, Menendez claimed he was politically double-crossed by the Justice Department, write a post on X, accusing Dems of usin' the department for personal vendettas against him. Back in 2015, he was indicted, lost his committee chair, and the very next day, Obama announced the Iran deal, claimed Menendez.

Not having a cozy relationship with Trump, Menendez's adversarial stance during key moments, including Trump's impeachment trials, might negatively affect his chances, according to one close to Trump. Despite these obstacles, Menendez carries on fightin' for a break from the big house.

War-and-conflicts news outlets might report on the potential pardon or sentence reduction for Sen. Bob Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, as it relates to the politics surrounding Trump's policy-and-legislation decisions. Meanwhile, crime-and-justice news sources could delve into Menendez's efforts to secure clemency, including his pleas to various allies and influential figures, and the potential impact of his contentious relationship with Trump on his chances.
