Senate Commission Summons Ayuso and His Partner for Koldo Case Testimony (PSOE Request)

3 Min. Read

The PSOE has requested the Senate commission investigating the Koldo case to summon Madrid's President, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, her partner Alberto González Amador, and Madrid Health Service Security Director, Juan Vicente Bonilla. This lineup is among eight individuals believed to have crucial insights on potential irregularities in public contracting during the pandemic, or who may possess significant information on the Koldo case.

In a statement, the PSOE stated that they aim to clarify new, gravity-defying facts, published in media, that may affect the Koldo case investigation. Along with Ayuso and her partner, the list includes Alfonso Serrano, Eva Ortiz, senators from the PP, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, the general director of Quirón Prevention, Fernando Camino, and lawyer Víctor Soriano, known for his association with Manos Limpias and advisory role in the Senate.

Given the PP majority in the upper house, it's predicted they'll reject this proposal, similar to earlier instances where they've imposed their list for the investigation commission appearances. PSOE rebuked the PP for the consistent delay tactics, extending the commission's work plan with unrelated topics and debates distancing themselves from the investigation's original purpose.

Probing Bonilla's Role

The PSOE seeks Ayuso's appearance to discuss her proposed Senate investigation into the management of residences during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain's autonomous communities. They also request clarification on Ayuso's knowledge of Juan Vicente Bonilla's alleged knowledge of the Koldo case facts before his employment in 2023.

Investigative reports reveal conversations between former UCO captain and entrepreneur that suggest they aimed to uncover incriminating information about the PSOE. Consequently, the PSOE requires Bonilla's appearance to explain the content of these conversations, as they suggest he had alleged knowledge of Koldo case facts that may have been used to sabotage the government.

Moreover, they call upon senator Alfonso Serrano to clarify how he obtained information that led to filing a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, initiating the 'Koldo case.' Regarding the deaths in Madrid-region residences during the pandemic, the PSOE demands senator Enrique Ruiz Escudero's presence due to his politically responsible role in health matters at the time.

González Amador, Camino, and Ortiz

Despite the Koldo case, the PSOE insists on summoning Alberto González Amador, who faces tax fraud charges, to address allegations of irregularities in contracts, licenses, concessions, aid, or any public sector relations during the pandemic.

Fernando Camino Maculet, general director of Quirón Prevention, is called upon to testify about alleged commissions of €2 million given to González Amador, possibly leading to his tax fraud and document forgery charges. The PSOE wants clarification on the work and invoices issued by Ayuso's partner to Quirón before, during, and after the pandemic.

Lastly, the PSOE summons Eva Ortiz, first secretary of the Senate's desk, to explain the appointment of Victor Soriano, Manos Limpias' lawyer, who submitted a document to the Supreme Court to merge separate judicial proceedings into a single case concerning the Koldo case.

**Background:* Juan Vicente Bonilla, previously a head of human resources at the University of Coahuila, became a senior security official at the Madrid Health Institute in October 2023. His connection to the Koldo case arises from leaked WhatsApp messages from 2021. In these messages, Bonilla reportedly warned a businessman involved in a hydrocarbons plot, José Luis Caramés, that he had "sensitive" information about Koldo García, possibly hinting at an irregular origin of the case against García and Ábalos1,3. The Koldo case involves potential corruption in relation to public contracts for purchasing masks during the pandemic2. The Senate commission is likely investigating the deeper implications of these cases, including political involvement and potential misuse of power. Juan Vicente Bonilla's role in this context is under intense scrutiny due to his involvement in conversations about sensitive information about the case.
