French Open Showdown: Sabalenka vs Swiatek

Semifinal encounter in Paris: Sabalenka squares off against Swiatek

In the thrilling semifinals of the French Open, world number one Aryna Sabalenka and reigning champion Iga Swiatek are all set to lock horns! This will be Sabalenka's second semifinal appearance at Roland Garros, following her 2023 run.

Sabalenka put up a gritty display against Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen of China, winning 7:6 (7:3), 6:3 in Paris. The Belarusian star had a tough time in the first set, going down a break early on. However, she managed to turn the tables, attributing her resilience to sheer luck. In the second set, Sabalenka showcased her dominance, clinching victory after an hour and 54 minutes, making use of her first match point. Zheng Qinwen had earlier triumphed in Rome tournament before the French Open.

Meanwhile, Swiatek gave a powerful performance against Ukrainian fan favorite Elina Svitolina, winning 6:1, 7:5. The Polish player stretched her winning streak at Roland Garros to 26 matches, having claimed the French Open title for the past three years. Swiatek started strongly against Svitolina, playing aggressively and leaving the Ukrainian no room to breathe. Despite Svitolina's improving performance in the second set, she was close to turning the match around. Swiatek, however, recovered from an early break and secured her win after 1 hour and 41 minutes. She is excited about the semifinal encounter against Sabalenka, set to take place on Thursday.

As for the defending champions in the men's singles event, the latest information suggests that Carlos Alcaraz is the titleholder, having claimed glory in 2024. Alcaraz advanced to the fourth round of the 2025 edition, defeating Damir Dzumhur in four sets. However, there is no confirmation that he has reached or played a semifinal match this year.

Unlike the men, Iga Swiatek continues to rule the women's singles category, having successfully defended her title from the previous three years. She will battle Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals on June 5, 2025. Further details about their recent matches prior to this confrontation are not available at this time. Stay tuned for more updates from the French Open!

In the upcoming clash, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, both contestants in the French Open semifinals, will be engaging in a thrilling tennis match, continuing their rivalry on the sports court. Following her victory against Zheng Qinwen in Paris, Sabalenka will be seeking to outplay Swiatek, who is currently on a 26-match winning streak at Roland Garros.
