Seller of "rarities" surpasses competitors in negotiations, yet controversy stirs around the subject of "bauchlandung"
The Lip Mach 2000, a bold and avant-garde watch designed by Roger Tallon in the 1970s, failed to sell for 1,600 euros on the German TV show "Bares für Rares". This show, similar to "Antiques Roadshow", appraises and auctions unique items.
The Lip Mach 2000, while iconic, is not typically a high-priced luxury watch. Its value lies in its innovative design, historical significance in watchmaking, and the reputation of the French brand Lip. Despite its collectible status, its market value is generally moderate within vintage watch circles.
The failure to sell the Lip Mach 2000 on "Bares für Rares" may be attributed to the watch's condition, rarity, and demand at the time of sale. Rolf, the owner of the Lip Mach 2000, bought the watch in April 1974 for 500 marks, a significant sum in the 1970s. He was a candidate on the show "Trödelshow", where he decided to sell his design collection, including the watch. Daniel Meyer, another contestant, expressed disinterest in purchasing the watch, offering a maximum of 1,200 euros.
Despite the watch's failure to sell, Sven Deutschmanek, an expert on the show, identified the watch as a "Lip Mach 2000" designed by Roger Tallon. He considered the watch rare and estimated its value to be between 1,400 to 1,600 euros. However, no dealer was willing to pay the asked price of 1,600 euros for the watch.
The Lip Mach 2000, with its unique design and historical significance, continues to capture the attention of collectors and design enthusiasts. Its value, while not typically reaching premium Swiss luxury watch prices, makes it an affordable yet coveted piece in the vintage watch market.
