Central Visayas saw a major crackdown on illegal drugs over the past week, as the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) nabbed a whopping 205 suspects, among which were 14 high-value targets. The operations, which took place between April 20-26, 2025, resulted in the seizure of around Php 24 million worth of drugs and related paraphernalia, according to PRO-7 data.
P/Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, head of PRO-7, emphasized the importance of these operations in ensuring both efficiency and security in Central Visayas, particularly during the election period. With the upcoming elections, Gen. Rommel Marbil is slated to take command, and Maranan assured his personnel that combating illegal drugs will remain a top priority.
"PRO 7 will continue to operate relentlessly against illegal drugs to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process while respecting human rights," Maranan stated.
Public attention should be drawn to the law enforcement officials who have been acting under the laws outlined in the Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and the numerous anti-drug operations will continue until the election period.
