Sega unveils initial sneak peek at the Sonic and DC Universe collaboration that wasn't previously anticipated

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the world of DC Comics and the iconic video game character Sonic the Hedgehog are joining forces for an exciting crossover event. This announcement was made during Sega's Sonic Central livestream event in September 2024.

The story revolves around Darkseid, the infamous villain from DC Comics, crossing dimensions to invade Sonic's world. To counter this invasion, Sonic will receive help from the Justice League. The comics will feature the Justice League meeting Sonic and his friends in an unlikely crossover, promising an action-packed adventure.

The comic book series is set to include five comics, each with unique and captivating art. The art in the comics will depict Sonic and Flash racing, potentially answering the age-old question of who is faster. One of the comics will even feature Amy Rose's Pink Cabriolet from Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Characters from both universes will be portrayed in creative ways. For instance, Shadow the Hedgehog will be depicted as Batman, Knuckles as Superman, Amy Rose as Wonder Woman, Silver the Hedgehog as Green Lantern, Tails as Cyborg, and Sonic as The Flash.

The collaboration has already resulted in a line of merchandise, including toys and collectibles from Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. A series of apparel featuring Shadow the Hedgehog as Batman can be found on Target.com, available on t-shirts and hoodies.

While the authors and illustrators involved in this collaboration are not yet revealed, the comics will be co-published by DC Comics and IDW Publishing. The first issue, DC x Sonic the Hedgehog #1, will have a cover by Pablo M. Collar and a variant cover by Ethan Young.

As the collaboration progresses, fans can expect more exciting revelations and a revisit of the Sonic the Hedgehog character design, including one terrifying early Sonic design. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting crossover event!
