Hawkin' about Moby Dick's Rhineland Rumble on June 28th in Neuwied

Want a wild theatrical ride? Picture this: a bus transformed into a whaling ship, bikes zooming around as chase boats, and a Frankenstein's monster of a car-buggy thing on tractor wheels, all tearing up a carnival ground? It's not a wild dream; it's the Freie Buhne Wendland's "Moby Dick" open-air spectacle. And for one crazy night (or matinee), they're bringing their roving show to Neuwied on June 28th (7 PM/Gates open at 6 PM). Ahead of that, they'll captivate the kiddos at Andernacher Rheinanlagen on June 26th (11 AM).

"Hello, mate, name's Ishmael." Probably catchy, even if you've never read "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville. The tale about man's greed versus nature's wrath remains as topical as yesterday's news. The Freie Buhne Wendland team breaths new life into this classic with steel, cybernetics, and gritty realism. The sea roars to life right smack in the heart of Neuwied’s funfair ground. And when the whaling vessel "Pequod" sails to hunt the colossal Moby Dick, you're right there on the deck.

An excellent finishing touch? This open-air drama could even play out in crummy weather. A little wind and a sprinkle of water welcome additions to the scene. But no matter what Mother Nature throws at us, this one-of-a-kind theater extravaganza has earned awards for its creative stagecraft. It's a mesmerizing show that's as awe-inspiring as the sea itself, and, of course, the giant, glorious whale.

Score yourself some tickets at www.ticket-regional.de or any Ticket-Regional kiosk. Tickets for the Neuwied show run 21 big ones (or 18 with a discount), while the Andernach school performance goes for 7 chips.
