Security Vigil | An Impressive Charitable Endeavor

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is making waves with its latest initiative, the NRA America's Rifle Challenge (ARC), designed to encourage AR-type rifle owners to participate in action shooting sports. This new competition, detailed at arc.nra.org, is part of the NRA's broader focus on competitive shooting programs and education.

Established in 1871, the NRA was founded with the primary goal of promoting and encouraging rifle shooting on a scientific basis. Since then, it has grown into a grassroots effort to improve Americans' understanding of their right to keep and bear arms. The tradition of the NRA is kept alive by its members, who have included nine sitting U.S. presidents, such as President Trump and General and President Ulysses S. Grant.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a bill that includes a provision to repeal the requirement for law-abiding U.S. citizens to pay a $200 fee and wait for permission to buy and install hearing-protection devices on their firearms. This move aligns with the NRA's emphasis on safety, as hearing protection is an essential aspect of responsible shooting.

The NRA is also working to remove suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA) through its Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA). Suppressors, owned by millions of American gun owners, are crucial for reducing noise levels and protecting shooters' hearing.

In addition to the NRA ARC, the organisation is also focusing on various other competitions across the United States. These include the NRA National Matches, the Muzzle Loading Championship, and the NRA's Youth Hunter Education Challenge. Details about these competitions can be found at competitions.nra.org/competitions.

The NRA encourages everyone to learn about gun safety and participate in shooting events. As Col. William C. Church, one of the NRA's founders, said, the NRA was established to "promote and encourage" shooting skills. So, we are all NRA recruiters now, encouraging others to join us in this shared heritage and enjoy the sport of shooting responsibly.
