Security Personnel Tragically Slain in Yala Incident; One Sustains Injury
Updated Article:
Hell of a start to the week, ain't it? Yala's up in flames once more, and not just literally. Two bloody attacks left three dead and a whole mess of chaos in their wake.
Let's break it down, shall we?
First off, just after midnight, Monday morning, a defense volunteer, Theerawut Phuttharat, 34, got himself a bullet to the head outside a grocer's on Highway 410 in Bannang Sata district. The cowardly bastards that pulled the trigger must've been hiding around the corner, 'cause our guy was just leaving his car for a quick shop. His car went up in flames afterward, adding insult to injury.
Things didn't get any better in Than To district, where a road bomb tore an armored truck to shreds and took the lives of Pol Snr Sgt Maj Isaret Intarapet and Pol Cpl Monpitak Petnui, while Pol Cpl Panuwat Wechapasan fought to stay alive.
Now, these attacks got folks talking about the old insurgency that's been plaguing Thailand's southern provinces for yonks. Suspects point their fingers at separatist Muslims, but don't hold your breath for any firm answers on the investigations. The government's got their hands full, as usual – the Deputy Prime Minister's asking for a status report on the unrest within a week, and they're even considering easing martial law to ramp up trade and normality efforts. Guess it's a case of business as usual in those parts.
