Security forces apprehend leading suspect in the 2024 Manipur Massacre Murder Investigation

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Assam Police have made a significant breakthrough in the 2024 Jiribam killings case, announcing the arrest of a key conspirator named Thanglienlal Hmar alias Boya.

Boya, a resident of Moinathol Dilkshosh Ghaat in Cachar district of Assam, is suspected to have been actively involved in the conspiracy and execution of the brutal abduction and killing of three women and three children from the Meitei community in Manipur's Jiribam district. The victims were abducted in the Borobekra area and their bodies were later disposed of in the Barak river.

The arrest was made in relation to the brutal killings that took place on November 11, 2021, in the strife-torn state of Manipur. The NIA recovered a mobile phone and a SIM card from the accused.

The arrest marks a major development in the case, and the Manipur High Court has recently directed the NIA to file its chargesheet within one month after submitting sealed progress reports on the investigation.

It is important to note that the President's Rule in Manipur was first imposed in December 2021 following the collapse of the state government. The Lok Sabha has now approved a statutory resolution for an additional six months, extending the President's Rule in Manipur until June 2022.

However, the current search results do not contain any updated information about President's Rule being lifted or imposed in Manipur as of the latest news in 2025. Therefore, based on the current information available, no update on President's Rule in Manipur can be provided.

The NIA is continuing its investigation in the case, which it took over from the Borobekra Police. The agency's efforts have led to the arrest of Boya, bringing hope for justice for the families of the victims.
