"Break Away from the Regime" - Pahlavi Urges Iran's Security Forces

Security figure Shah-Sohn urges Iran's security officials to distance themselves from the government

In the wake of Israel's strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and military targets, Reza Pahlavi, son of the former Shah, has escalated his calls for liberation, addressed to the Iranian security forces. He appeals to the police, military, and intelligence services, urging them to break away from the current regime and join the Iranian populace.

Live in exile near Washington D.C., Pahlavi spoke out after the Israeli attacks, which resulted in the death of the chiefs of the Iranian army and the Revolutionary Guards, as well as nearly the entire leadership of the Revolutionary Guards' air force.

What Lies Ahead?

With the Islamic Republic appearing to teeter on the brink, Pahlavi declared that Iran belongs to its people and they should reclaim it. Encouraging his fellow countrymen to remain resilient, he stated, "We will win."

Contrary to restoring the monarchy in Iran, Pahlavi seeks to use his family name to bolster the secular democracy movement within his homeland.

Tensions Escalate

For decades, Iran has posed a threat to Israel, which denies Israel's right to exist since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. During the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi's rule, Iran and Israel maintained cordial relations.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused Pahlavi of instigating a war between Iran and Israel by pulling the Iranian government into the conflict. He described the regime in Tehran as "weak and divided." To the international community, Khamenei appealed, "Do not provide a lifeline to this dying, terrorist regime."

Resonance of His Message

Though the international response to Pahlavi's calls is unclear, his message resonates with dissidents and those opposed to the Islamic Republic's rule. The Iranian diaspora, particularly those who demonstrate support for Israel, also support his appeal.

As regional tensions rise and domestic unrest persists due to economic hardship and political repression, it remains to be seen whether Pahlavi's message will inspire widespread dissent and potentially lead to the downfall of the current regime.

  1. The escalating calls for liberation from Reza Pahlavi, son of the former Shah, could potentially put the economic and monetary union of Iran at stake, as he appeals to the security forces to break away from the regime, a move that might have far-reaching implications in times of war-and-conflicts and politics.
  2. Amidst the increasing political tension and economic hardship within the Islamic Republic, the general-news buzzes with discussions centering on Pahlavi's rhetoric advocating for a secular democracy, echoing the sentiments of many dissidents who are exhausted by the existing economic and monetary union under the current regime.
