German basketball coach Gordon Herbert, aged 64, has temporarily pushed aside thoughts of picking up a second job. "I've got no desire anymore to lead another team. My attention is solely on the DBB squad and the Olympics," Herbert stated to the German Press Agency in Munich. A potential opportunity to join French Euroleague club Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne had cropped up recently, but the German Basketball Federation (DBF) vetoed any arrangement. Herbert himself was eager to manage both tasks, but he wanted the DBB's backing and didn't wish to proceed without it.

"I simply couldn't do it without their support. I'm absolutely frustrated by it. My focus is on the DBB. I adore the job, and I love working with these players. It's an Olympic year, and I don't want any complications," explained Herbert. His team, spearheaded by Dennis Schröder, is among the medal hopefuls at the upcoming Olympic tournament in Paris and Lille (July 27 to August 11).

As his top performers in North America and Europe return to their daily routines, Herbert is currently receiving several accolades. "It's terrific that we're recognized after our World Championship triumph. I'm not entirely sure what's left to come. There's still plenty happening. I'm trying to keep up with everything while also carrying on as usual," said Herbert. The German basketball players are strong contenders for the "Team of the Year" category at the "Sportsman of the Year" gala scheduled for December 17.

Having turned down a chance to lead Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne, Herbert will concentrate on guiding the DBB team towards medal success at the Paris and Lille Olympic tournament.
