Second Fire in a Week Devastates Gengenbach Building, Causes Major Transport Disruption

A second fire in a week has hit the former production building in Gengenbach, causing significant disruption and damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with arson suspected and three young adults confessing to previous incidents on the site.

The blaze led to the closure of Gengenbach station and suspension of services on the Black Forest Railway between Offenburg and Hausach. Deutsche Bahn has swiftly arranged replacement bus services to minimise disruption.

Firefighters from Gengenbach and neighbouring areas have been battling the flames since early Sunday morning. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but it's estimated to be around €1 million, following the €500,000 damage from the previous fire just a week ago. Excavators have been deployed on site due to the risk of collapse.

The previous fire was started by two teenagers and a child, who set fire to a piece of furniture. This time, while arson is suspected, the police have not officially confirmed the identities of those responsible and continue their investigation.
