Sebastian Hoeneß's provisional findings have been announced
VfB Stuttgart Gears Up for the 2025/26 Season
VfB Stuttgart is readying itself for the upcoming football season, following a series of pre-season friendlies and training camps. The team, under the guidance of new coach Sebastian Hoeneß, has been training since early July and has completed two-thirds of their pre-season preparations.
The team's training camp was held in Rottach-Egern on Lake Tegernsee, Germany. Here, the focus was on making the training tougher, with a particular emphasis on duels and communication. The newcomers, including right-back Lorenz Assignon, Lazar Jovanovic, Chema Andres, and Noah Darvich (19), significantly increased the training level and brought fresh energy to the team.
One of the standout newcomers is Chema Andres, who is noted for his combination of overview, physicality, game understanding, technical class, and elegance. Lauri Penna (19) has also been temporarily promoted from the U21 team, adding more youthful energy to the squad.
The team's performances during training and the friendly match against Toulouse FC, which ended in a 6:0 victory for Stuttgart, have been pleasing for coach Hoeneß. The test match served not just as a pure assessment of the team's situation but also as a platform for development, particularly against Vigo and Toulouse.
The team's fitness issues have been addressed, with an improvement in their resistance and a reduction in the average distance they run per game compared to the first half of the 24/25 season. This improved fitness is evident in their performances, as they ran two kilometers less per game on average during the friendlies.
As the competitive season approaches, the team's progress will be put to the test. A dress rehearsal against FC Bologna next Saturday will show if the progress can be carried into the final phase of preparation. The competitive season begins for VfB Stuttgart in under 14 days with the Supercup against FC Bayern Munich. The subsequent league start and the first cup round will reveal the value of the preparation so far.
