Season's Conclusion: SAM-Skatefest 2025 Event
On the 27th of September, the city of Mannheim will host the 11th annual SAM Skatefest at the Schönau Skatepark. This event is a testament to the city's commitment to the needs and interests of children and young people, as demonstrated by the significant project that is the Schönau Skatepark.
The Schönau Skatepark, located at Lilienthalstraße 197, was built in northern Mannheim and was initiated by 'Skater aus Mannheim' (SAM), a group of local children and young people who successfully campaigned for its construction. The city council approved the project, and it has since become a popular destination for skateboard enthusiasts.
The SAM Skatefest is a collaborative effort between the city of Mannheim, Eltern-Aktiv e.V., Caritasverband Mannheim e.V., Jugendhaus Schönau, Skateboard Academy Mannheim, Schönau District Council, and Sandhofen District Council. This year's event is part of Mannheim's ongoing efforts to engage with and support the city's youth.
The day's schedule includes a Kids' Workshop by the Skateboard Academy Mannheim, starting at 3 PM. Parents or guardians can register their children on the day of the event from 2:30 PM onwards. Skateboard Challenges by the Skateboard Academy will begin at 5 PM. At 4 PM, there will be an exchange on 'Future Ideas for the Skatepark' with representatives from politics. The event will conclude at 6 PM.
Mannheim prioritizes planning with children and young people and involving them in municipal decision-making processes. Food will be provided by the Youth Welfare Office's food truck. The 'End-of-Season' Skatefest of Mannheim Skaters (SAM) will also mark the 11th anniversary of the Schönau Skatepark.
Since January 2023, the city of Mannheim holds the 'Child-Friendly Municipality' seal, committing to implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This year's SAM Skatefest is a reflection of this commitment, providing a fun and engaging environment for children and young people to enjoy.
