Joblessness Drops Across the Saxon Region
Goodbye to unemployment for around 1,500 individuals in Saxony! With August's closing, the total unemployment count has reduced to approximately 140,000. This decrease of 0.1 percentage points has the unemployment rate standing at a respectable 6.5%.
Klaus-Peter Hansen, the head of the BA regional office in Chemnitz, briefed us about these figures. It's worth noting that a year ago, the rate was at 6.4%. Calculations were made using statistics available up to August 14.
Interestingly, Saxon businesses reported fewer job vacancies last August. Hansen sheds light on this situation, commenting, "As summer holiday break ends, folks have found jobs, and many youngsters have started their school or vocational training."
Upon returning from summer break, skill-building programs for workers have also resumed. Additionally, a higher number of people have been unwell, resulting in their exclusion from the unemployment count. Hansen explains, "Early holiday vacations seem to have fast-forwarded the usual reasons for decreased unemployment a month ahead of schedule."
Job Opportunities Abundant
Curently, 34,600 job openings are up for grabs via employment agencies and joint job centers, a drop of 2.4% compared to July. The majority of these positions are permanent, full-time positions waiting to be filled immediately.
Approximately 5,500 new job vacancies were announced by Saxon companies in August, representing a 10.9% decrease from July. Hansen anticipates that numerous job-seekers in the state will secure employment or training within weeks due to these openings. "With around 34,000 job openings and more than 5,700 unsatisfied apprenticeship positions, prospects are generally encouraging, despite the challenges companies face," Hansen stated.
Highest Unemployment in Chemnitz
In regional rankings, Saxon Switzerland-Osterzgebirge and Erzgebirge (both 5.2%) share the title of lowest unemployment rates with Zwickau (5.3%). Görlitz (8.8%) and Chemnitz (9%) still hold the highest spots. The most notable decrease was recorded in the districts of Meißen and Leipzig.
In June, over 1.64 million individuals were employed in Saxony, subject to social security contributions. A slight employment decrease of 0.2% was observed compared to May. Compared to the record low in June 2005, there are currently 302,000 more employed individuals in Saxony.
The reduction in unemployment in Saxony can be attributed to Employment and social security policies being effective. Klaus-Peter Hansen, the head of the BA regional office, further emphasized that the resumption of skill-building programs after the summer holidays and an increased number of reported sick leaves contributed to this reduction.
