Season-ending injury for Steelers' guard Max Scharping, diagnosed with a torn ACL

Max Scharping, the Pittsburgh Steelers' second-string right guard, has suffered a season-ending injury. The 26-year-old, who joined the Steelers last October, sustained a torn ACL during practice on Wednesday. The severity of the injury was confirmed after an MRI.

Scharping, a second-round draft pick by the Houston Texans in 2019, has played for three different NFL teams: the Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Prior to joining the Steelers, he spent time on the Washington Commanders practice squad.

In his NFL career, Scharping has started a total of 38 games. Before joining the Steelers, he started all 33 of his games with the Houston Texans. Scharping played in two games for the Steelers last season, with seven offensive snaps, but did not start any playoff games for the team.

Scharping started five of six playoff games during his time with the Houston Texans, Cincinnati Bengals, and Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he did not start any playoff games for the Steelers or the Cincinnati Bengals. His last start in the NFL was with the Houston Texans.

The Steelers claimed Scharping from the Commanders practice squad on Oct. 1. Scharping was inactive for the first two games of the current season as Pittsburgh went 1-1. His injury is a significant blow to the Steelers' offensive line, which has been dealing with several injuries this season.

As Scharping recovers from his injury, the Steelers will likely turn to Mason McCormick, who is currently the starting right guard, and potentially other players on the roster to fill the void. The team will need to find a suitable replacement to maintain its offensive line and continue its push towards the playoffs.
