Seahawks unveil revamped offense during rookie training camp initiation

SEAHAWKS GEARING UP FOR HEAVY-HITTING FOOTBALL IN 2025!

RENTON – With rookie minicamp underway, the Seahawks are cock-a-hoop about their new offensive style that's sure to bring the smash-mouth back in 2025.

During a scrimmage session at the VMAC, fifth-round pick Robbie Ouzts and seventh-rounder Damien Martinez lined up as a fullback and running back, respectively. Fifth-round pick, Jalen Milroe, handed the ball to Martinez, who plowed through a hole and into daylight!

"Just hard-nosed football," Martinez grumbled after practice, giving a taste of what's coming in Seattle's revamped offense.

Though there was no contact and daylight was easy to find, the Seahawks are making a statement with this new system. They want to get back to pounding the rock and intend to make it happen with their rookies.

New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak wants the Seahawks to be physically dominant, and the signing of Robbie Ouzts as a tight end-turned-fullback shows that the team is putting their money where their mouth is.

Ouzts was the only player drafted this year listed as a fullback, and the Seahawks now have two fullbacks: Ouzts and the recently-converted Brady Russell. Seattle had only one fullback during the previous five seasons (Nick Bellore from 2020-23), who served as a backup linebacker and special teams captain while playing 40 offensive snaps over the last three years.

Though Seattle's offensive line played some two-back sets last year, the Seahawks now officially have two fullbacks on their roster, indicating a renewed emphasis on power running in their offense.

The team finished the season in 28th place for rushing yards in 2024, which contributed to their 21st-place ranking in third-down conversion percentage. Kubiak knows that a strong running game is essential for his playbook, and in his offense, a fullback will be a crucial piece of the puzzle.

"I love playing with a fullback," Kubiak said. "... You've got to be a balanced team. Sometimes you've got to drop back 50 times to win the game, and sometimes you've got to run it 50 times. When it all comes through, we want to be balanced, and we want to be able to win multiple ways."

As the Seahawks revive their running game, expect power running to be a primary focus. Ouzts will have a lot to learn as he transitions from the tight end to the fullback position, but the team is confident that he can handle the challenge. Given his athletic background as a competitive swimmer and power forward, he has already shown his physical and versatile abilities.

Don't rule out the importance of special teams either. Both Ouzts and Russell were useful contributors on special teams during their time at Alabama. The Seahawks may keep both on the 53-man roster if they prove valuable enough.

So buckle up Seahawks fans, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of tough, hard-hitting football!
