SDEA Elects Bernd Hinteregger as New Leader for 'Red Economy' Push

The Social Democratic Economic Association (SDEA) has elected Bernd Hinteregger as its new leader, marking a strategic restart for the organisation. Hinteregger, a 50-year-old hotelier from Carinthia, aims to renew the association and make it a broad movement for small and medium-sized enterprises. He was elected with an overwhelming 85.52 percent of the votes by delegates in Vienna.

Hinteregger's election signals a shift in focus towards media presence and practical experience. His 'red economy' combines social democratic values with entrepreneurial thinking, with a focus on promoting future industries, creating secure jobs, and rewarding performance. He also plans to curb speculation within the association.

Hinteregger's first tasks as leader include reducing bureaucracy, improving protection for the self-employed, and creating fairer conditions for tech companies. He brings a wealth of business experience to the role, having founded the HB1 hotel chain and appeared as an investor on the show '2 Minutes 2 Million'.

The 2025 Economic Chamber Elections will be the first test of Hinteregger's leadership and his ability to bring concrete successes to the members of the association. Meanwhile, the outgoing leader, Christoph Matznetter, has been appointed honorary president after leading the association for two decades.

Bernd Hinteregger's election signals a new era for the SDEA, with a focus on practical experience and media presence. His first tasks as leader aim to improve conditions for members and bring concrete successes to the association. The upcoming elections in 2025 will be a crucial test of his leadership.
