"Screenwriter Fede Álvarez pens 'Alien: Romulus' sequel to steer clear of the controversies surrounding 'Alien 3'"

In a recent development for the 'Alien' series, it has been announced that Fede Álvarez, who directed the critically acclaimed 'Alien: Romulus', will no longer be at the helm for its sequel. However, he will continue his involvement in the project as a screenwriter and producer, alongside Rodo Sayagues and Ridley Scott. The successor director for 'Alien: Romulus 2' has yet to be announced.

Álvarez co-wrote the script for the sequel with a clear intention to keep the characters Rain and Andy alive, in stark contrast to the sudden and harsh deaths of Hicks and Newt in 'Alien 3'. He expressed empathy for fans' dissatisfaction with the earlier film, particularly the demise of these characters.

'Alien 3' tells us that after escaping LV-426, Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop crash-land on a prison planet. The crash-landing is devastating for Ripley and the audience, and some fans think the film is entertaining, but it is universally acknowledged that it does two characters from 'Aliens' extreme harm.

Álvarez aimed to ensure that the survivors of 'Alien: Romulus' do not meet the same fate as the characters in 'Alien 3'. The creators of the sequel have made sure that Rain and Andy survive, a decision that is likely to be welcomed by fans who were disappointed with the outcome in 'Alien 3'.

Meanwhile, the 'Alien: Earth' TV series recently released a new episode, and a YouTube video from Epic Film Guys Jeremy, via ComingSoon, documented Álvarez's comments about the 'Alien' series at Cincinnati's HorrorHound Weekend. In the video, Álvarez stated that he always intended to direct only one 'Alien' entry, and he remains committed to exploring unconventional sibling relationships in the series, as seen in 'Alien: Earth'.

The future of other popular franchises such as 'Marvel', 'Star Wars', 'Star Trek', 'DC Universe', and 'Doctor Who' were not discussed in the YouTube video. Nonetheless, fans of the 'Alien' series can look forward to the continuation of the 'Alien: Romulus' story with a new director at the helm, while keeping Álvarez's vision for the series alive.
