'Scream 7' Shatters Records, Paving Way for Eighth Film
The Scream franchise has hit a new milestone with its seventh instalment breaking box office records. The film grossed over $200 million worldwide, the first in the series to do so. Now, plans for an eighth movie are already underway with fresh talent at the helm. Scream 7 made a strong debut, earning $97.2 million globally in its opening weekend—the highest in the franchise's history. Its total haul surpassed $200 million, setting a new benchmark for the long-running horror series.
Spyglass Media Group is moving forward with *Scream 8*, tapping writers Lilla and Nora Zuckerman for the screenplay. The sisters have built a career in television, working on shows like *Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.*, *Suits*, *Fringe*, and *Prodigal Son*. They also served as showrunners for Peacock's *Poker Face*. Beyond *Scream 8*, the Zuckermans are developing *Buffy: New Sunnydale*, a reboot of *Buffy the Vampire Slayer*. They wrote the pilot for the project, which is currently in development. The duo is represented by UTA and Lichter Grossman Nichols.
The next Scream film will mark the Zuckermans' first major feature screenplay. Their hiring follows the franchise's strongest box office performance yet. Spyglass has not announced a release date or further casting details.
