Swing into August at Trump's Golf Links

Get ready to tee off at Trump International Golf Links Scotland as it prepares to host a European Tour tournament this coming August. The scenic course in Aberdeen will play host to the Scottish Championship from the 7th to the 10th, marking a significant milestone for the venue.

originally scheduled for 2025, the Scottish Championship was added to the tour's calendar on Tuesday, making it the first time Trump International will stage an event on the European Tour. Although the course has previously played host to the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship since 2023, this will be its debut on the circuit.

This northern Scottish gem, designed by Martin Hawtree, ranked 15th in Golf Monthly's UK and Ireland Top 100 courses list, boasts breathtaking sand dunes and North Sea views. The course is one of two owned by the now-former U.S. President Donald Trump in Scotland, with the other being Trump Turnberry.

While Trump International wasn't part of the British Open rotation, Trump Turnberry did host the prestigious tournament in 2009. However, it has not staged the event since then due to logistical and infrastructure concerns raised by the R&A, the organization that organizes the British Opens. In 2021, the R&A's then-CEO, Martin Slumbers, expressed reservations about returning the Open to Turnberry, possibly due to Trump's ownership of the course.

However, under the new leadership of CEO Mark Darbon, R&A seems to be softening its stance on Turnberry, expressing interest in doing feasibility work for a potential return to the course. Whether or not this will materialize remains to be seen.

Created in the midst of offshore wind turbines, Trump International offers a striking view that, ironically, drew the ire of Trump himself when the Scottish government approved a wind farm near Aberdeen beach. Trump described the turbines as "unsightly" and felt they spoiled the views at his luxury golf resort nearby.

This August, grab your clubs and head to Trump International Golf Links Scotland to witness history in the making as it hosts its first European Tour event. Keep an eye on the developments with Turnberry, too, as the R&A explores the possibility of bringing the British Open back to one of Trump's iconic courses.

The Scottish Championship, originally scheduled for 2025, will now be held at Trump International Golf Links Scotland in August, making it the first European Tour event at this venue. As golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipate this historic event, they may also watch for developments regarding the British Open potential return to Trump Turnberry.
