Scottie Scheffler uses a substitute caddy during the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Brad Payne Steps in for Ted Scott as Scottie Scheffler's Caddie in the Final Round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship
In a surprising turn of events, Brad Payne will replace Ted Scott as Scottie Scheffler's caddie during the final round of the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship. Scott, who has been on the bag for all 17 of Scheffler's PGA Tour wins, is away due to a family emergency.
Scheffler, currently at 12-under-par, had a challenging day in the third round, carding a one-over-par 73. Despite this, he remains a favourite to win the tournament, as he demonstrated with his impressive performance at the BMW Championship where he clinched victory with a stand-in caddie, Cromie.
Brad Payne, a former collegiate golfer at Pepperdine and a chaplain to PGA Tour players through his role with College Golf Fellowship, has previous experience as a caddie in PGA Tour events. He caddied for Scheffler during the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship, and the duo finished T8 in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Tommy Fleetwood is giving Scheffler a run for his money. Fleetwood, who is two shots ahead, is currently at 14-under-par in the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The final round promises to be an exciting showdown between these two formidable golfers.
As for Ted Scott, he will be missed by Scheffler, not just on the course, but also off it. The two have developed a strong friendship and mentorship over the years, with Scottie often seeking Brad's advice and guidance both on Tour and at home in Dallas.
The absence of Ted Scott in the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship is temporary, as he returned to caddie for Scheffler at the 2025 Tour Championship for the FedEx Cup finale. We wish him and his family all the best during this difficult time, and we look forward to seeing him back on the course soon.
