"Scottie Scheffler Expresses Thoughts on PGA Tour-LIV Golf Discord, Suggesting That Those Who Departed Should Reunite Tours"
Going Back Together: It's On the LIV Players, Says Scottie Scheffler
Golf star Scottie Scheffler thinks it's up to the players who left for LIV Golf to reunite the game of golf. The talk of a deal between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund has seemingly died down, with the men's game still split as Scheffler, McIlroy, and others continue on the US circuit, while DeChambeau, Rahm, and others persist with LIV Golf.
During a chat ahead of the Charles Schwab Challenge this week at Colonial, when asked a couple of LIV-related questions, Scheffler suggested going straight to LIV Golf to get answers. "Ask those guys" about how the game will reunite, he said.
When asked if he would have had his recent dominance if the LIV players were still on the PGA Tour, Scheffler wasn't interested in speculating. "I only get to compete against those guys four times a year," he responded. "That was their choice; not mine."
Time to Unite
Scheffler was firm on who should take responsibility for bringing the men's game back together. "If you want to figure out what's going to happen in the game of golf, go to the other tour and ask those guys," he stated. "I'm still here playing the PGA Tour. We had a tour where we all played together, and the guys that left, it's their responsibility I think to bring the tours back together."
When queried about any potential merger between the tours, Scheffler appeared unaware of the current status. "I have no idea where the tours are in terms of potentially merging," he admitted. "I guess you'd have to ask the higher-ups for that information."
The Future of Golf
The lack of optimism and recent discussions suggest that the golf world remains divided, with the PGA Tour focusing on its own events and LIV Golf pressed on with its own plans. It appears the responsibility for reuniting the game rests with the players who left the PGA Tour. Will they take up the challenge, or will the game continue to be divided? Only time will tell.
