Germany Experiences Record-Breaking Heatwave

Germany is currently experiencing a heatwave, with several regions reporting temperatures soaring above 35 degrees Celsius. The German Weather Service (DWD) has reported preliminary measurements of the temperature in various cities, including Müllheim near Freiburg, Rheinfelden, Trier-Zewen, Bad Kreuznach, Kaiserslautern, and Rheinfelden.

On Wednesday, Kaiserslautern saw a temperature of up to 36.5 degrees Celsius, making it the third-warmest city in Germany that day. Bad Kreuznach followed closely behind with a temperature of up to 36.6 degrees Celsius. Rheinfelden, on the other hand, recorded the highest temperature of the day, reaching up to 37.0 degrees Celsius.

The day before, the temperature in Müllheim near Freiburg reached up to 35.4 degrees Celsius, while Trier-Zewen saw a temperature of up to 34.3 degrees Celsius.

For Thursday, the DWD meteorologists predict high temperatures between 30 and 37 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures along the coasts will not be as high as the inland areas.

The temperatures in the southwestern states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate were particularly high the day before. In Baden-Württemberg, the known peak for August 2025 is 35.4 degrees Celsius, which was measured near the French border. Records for Rhineland-Palatinate were not specified in the search results and would need supplementary sources for exact figures. North Rhine-Westphalia's exact all-time high temperature was not provided in the current data.

It is important to note that the all-time temperature record for Germany was measured on July 25, 2019, at the DWD weather stations in Tönisvorst and Duisburg-Baerl, both in North Rhine-Westphalia, at 41.2 degrees Celsius. The current annual record for daily high temperature in Germany was measured on July 2, 2025, in Andernach, Rhineland-Palatinate, at 39.3 degrees Celsius.

Stay safe and hydrated during this heatwave!

Other regions await their turn to break weather records, with the weather-forecasting indicating potentially record-breaking temperatures in the upcoming days. Their weather will likely mimic the current heatwave patterns in southern states like Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.
