Scattered Thunderstorms, Sunny Spells, and Warm Temperatures Characterize Northern Weather Conditions - Scorching temperatures, lightning, and sunshine Describes the weather conditions in the northern regions.
Gearing up for a stormier but calmer week, North Germany is experiencing a rollercoaster of weather. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts a positive shift in the weather pattern starting Tuesday for many parts of the north. By next weekend, Lower Saxony is expected to encounter a heat wave, according to a weather service spokesperson.
Things remain unsettled today, with cloudy skies and showers, some heavy with thunderstorms, in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Severe weather is possible due to the heavy rain. Temperatures will range between 21 and 24 degrees, cooler on the North Sea islands at around 19 degrees. Expect thunderstorms moving eastward in the evening, leading to calmer nights with temperatures between 12 and 14 degrees.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will start the day with some sunshine, but the sky will cloud over by the afternoon, bringing heavy thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds. Severe weather is a possibility, with temperatures reaching between 23 and 29 degrees, warmest in the southeast. The storms will also move eastward by night, leaving temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees.
Thunderstorms are also on the horizon for Lower Saxony and Bremen. Highs of up to 26 degrees are expected at the border with Saxony-Anhalt, while the rest of the country will hover around 23 degrees, and around 20 degrees on the islands. The night will see clearing in many places, creating a noticeably cooler feel with temperatures between 11 and 14 degrees.
Tomorrow is slated to be a weather calm in all three regions. Partly cloudy skies, with only occasional rain will dominate Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, temperatures ranging from 17 degrees on the islands to 22 degrees inland. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will stay mostly dry, with temperatures between 19 and 23 degrees, interspersed with clear skies at times. Lower Saxony and Bremen will also remain mostly dry, with highs of between 21 and 24 degrees.
The sun will make more frequent appearances starting Tuesday across all regions. In Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, temperatures between 19 degrees on Sylt and 25 degrees in Hamburg are anticipated. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, temperatures will stay between 20 and 24 degrees, remaining dry throughout the day. Temperatures in Lower Saxony and Bremen will rise to 24 to 27 degrees, and around 20 degrees on the islands.
A return of the heat is expected for Lower Saxony over the coming weekend, according to the DWD. Initial signs point to a heat wave in southern Lower Saxony, with temperatures reaching the upper 20s, while the rest of North Germany is expected to remain friendly but cooler.
