Scorching Temperatures in Germany Reach up to 36 Degrees in Certain Regions
In recent days, several parts of Germany have been experiencing unusually high temperatures. The city of Offenbach, based on preliminary measurements from the German Weather Service (DWD), is expected to reach peak temperatures above 36 degrees.
This heatwave follows the significant 2019 European heatwave, during which Germany recorded its all-time temperature record of 42.6 °C (108.7 °F) in Lingen, Lower Saxony, on July 25, 2019. This record surpassed previous highs during that heat event.
The 2019 heatwave also produced France’s record high of 46.0 °C at Vérargues and broke records in several other European countries. This German record is part of a growing trend of extreme heat events across Europe during recent summers, attributed to ongoing climate changes.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, it was particularly hot in the southwestern German states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate. A preliminary value of 37.0 degrees was recorded in Rheinfelden (Baden-Württemberg) on Wednesday.
Huy-Pabstorf in Saxony-Anhalt recorded a temperature of 37.0 degrees, but the value needs verification due to the location of the measuring station. Schlüchtern-Herolz in Hesse also recorded a temperature of 36.5 degrees.
Meanwhile, the city of Bad Kissingen in Bavaria reached a temperature of 36.8 degrees. On July 2, 2025, a daily high temperature of 39.3 degrees was measured in Andernach (Rhineland-Palatinate).
While these temperatures are high, they are still below the all-time record for Germany. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay cool and hydrated during these hot days.
Scientists are closely watching the recent heatwave in Germany, as peak temperatures in some cities, such as Offenbach, could exceed 36 degrees – similar to the record-breaking 2019 European heatwave that led to severe environmental-science concerns due to ongoing climate changes. Moreover, the German Weather Service (DWD) continues monitoring the weather patterns to anticipate potential record-breaking temperatures in the near future.
