Scorching temperatures have reached their zenith.
Warm Weather and Thunderstorm Risk Forecasted for Germany
Germany is set to experience mild to warm temperatures, partly sunny skies, and a moderate risk of thunderstorms from mid-week through the weekend, according to meteorological forecasts.
Temperature and Cloud Cover
Daytime temperatures are predicted to range around 25°C, with lows near 13°C, similar to recent conditions in Hamburg. The forecast indicates fair weather with a mix of clouds and sunshine, as demonstrated by Hamburg's 64% cloud cover but no precipitation recently, and nearby areas like Erkelenz showing sunshine in the forecast for up to 10 days.
Thunderstorm Risk
While central Germany appears stable, the western and northern regions might experience thunderstorms, particularly towards the weekend. Rain and thunderstorms are expected in the west and north around August 21-24, coinciding with the weekend timing.
Heat Wave and Precautions
Germany is currently experiencing a heat wave, with temperatures peaking in the mid-week. Thermometers could reach up to 37 degrees Celsius towards the end of the week, and sensitive individuals may face difficulties due to the warmer nights. Meteorologist Jacqueline Kernn from the DWD advises that those who spend a long time outdoors should consider appropriate sun protection.
Thunderstorm Warnings
The northwest will become increasingly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, and locally, heavy rain, hail, and gusts of wind are possible due to thunderstorms later in the week. There is an increased risk of strong thunderstorms in the eastern Bavarian uplands and directly at the Alps on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Additional Considerations
Scattered showers and thunderstorms cannot be ruled out in the mountains on Thursday. As nights are becoming warmer, ventilation and cooling are becoming increasingly difficult, which can affect sleep. Regular fluid intake should be ensured during prolonged heat. The DWD expects tropical nights in some urban areas until Friday, defined as nights when temperatures do not drop below 20 degrees Celsius. Almost the entire country will experience abundant sunshine on Wednesday. Meteorologist Kernn expects scattered showers and thunderstorms to be possible again towards the end of the week.
