Schwicheldt's Kanalstraße faces major construction from March 2026

Major construction work will begin along Kanalstraße in Schwicheldt on March 18, 2026, as part of a grid expansion project. The work, carried out by contractor IMD for Stadtwerke Peine, aims to boost energy supply reliability and future-proof the local infrastructure.

The first phase will run from March 1 to May 31, 2026, focusing on two sections of Kanalstraße: between Hauptstraße and Bahnhofstraße, and between Mühlenweg and the exit towards Löhne. During this period, the road will be reduced to a single lane, and access to some properties may be temporarily restricted. A full road closure is also scheduled for March 30 and 31 over the Easter holidays.

Brief power outages will occur while new connections are installed, with affected residents receiving advance notice. The second phase, set for summer, involves renovating the substation at the intersection of Im Weidengrund. Another one-day road closure is planned for late June. The entire project is expected to finish by **the end of July**, weather permitting.

Once complete, the upgrades will increase grid capacity and improve energy supply stability for the area. Residents and businesses along Kanalstraße should prepare for temporary disruptions over the coming months.
