Throughout his illustrious career, Dresen has scooped awards at the Cannes, Chicago, and Karlovy Vary film festivals, and garnered multiple German Film Prize wins for films such as "Halbe Treppe", "Wolke Neun", "Halt auf freier Strecke", and "Gundermann". Despite his global success, Schwerin remains his spiritual home.

Born in Gera in 1963 to an actress and a theater director, Dresen's life took a dramatic turn when his parents separated, and he and his mother relocated to Schwerin. they found solace and inspiration in the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater, a creative powerhouse that left an indelible mark on Dresen.
